Windows Phone POP Mail Sync Issue

Ye! that's me

Well, it’s all about corporate mail synchronization issue over 3G/4G network.  When we purchased Nokia Lumia 625 Windows Phone recently for our business needs, we were so pleased with its simplicity and straight forward approaches for day-to-day business tasks.

I had started to go a test drive before getting corporate package SIM card from carrier, over Wi-Fi, and everything was going smoothly, especially our POP office mail synchronization.

After inserting SIM card, immediately the phone automatically configured internet settings from the carrier, in our case from Vodafone Qatar.

On the next day, I have noticed the mobile Outlook app was notifying that last sync with the server was almost 12 hours back. So that was the end of my happy day. I started to contact supplier, reconfigured mail settings, even reset the phone to factory default settings, nothing worked.

After hours of googling and McD coffees I have found the problem was on the automatic access point settings.

here was the actual setting I had received from our carrier.

Access Point Name: web.vodafone.com.qa

User Name:

Password:

Proxy Address: 10.101.97.102

Proxy Port: 80

Network Type: IPV4

Authentication Type: None

MMS APN

MMS Access Point Name: vodafone.com.qa

Username:

Password:

Proxy Address: 10.101.97.102

Proxy Port: 80

MMSC Address: http://mms.vodafone.com.qa/mmsc

Network Type: IPV4

Authentication Type: None

To be honest, above settings are perfectly fit for most smart phones, however, in my case I had trouble.

So… I created a new Access Point and activate it as the default AP and Voila…!! the problem gone!!!!! My mails are being synced faster than my desktop Outlook.

here is the path to create a new AP on Windows Phone.

Go to Settings…

Tap Access Point

On the Access Point screen tap the plus sign,

windows phone vodafone qatar internet settings

In the new AP window,

Enter a sweet connection name. I gave an weird name Voda, because, I got all settings from the carrier.

Below the settings I entered.

Access Point Name: web.vodafone.com.qa

User Name:

Password:

Proxy Address:

Proxy Port:

Network Type: IPV4

Authentication Type: None

MMS APN

MMS Access Point Name: vodafone.com.qa

Username:

Password:

Proxy Address: 10.101.97.102:80

Proxy Port:

MMSC Address: http://mms.vodafone.com.qa/mmsc

Network Type: IPV4

Authentication Type: None

You got my point?? yes.. just keep blank most settings as above.

Finally Activate the new access point that we have created.

new access point

That’s it folks!!! Keep an eye on your country’s mobile carrier, their settings may vary.

Good Luck!!
